True. Much like Mudcat -- registration requires only a user name and e-dress -- but you have to register to read as well as to post. (I find that's often true online just to read newspaper articles. In fact, many online news sites require a helluva lot more than that.)

"The notion of a Canadian Idol winner being a top act confirms everything I find irritating about the Ottawa Folk Festival.   So, am I wrong?   Is there more to Kalan Porter than the bleating and grimacing that the Idol contestants seem to think are what makes a real singer?

I haven't followed Kalan's career or music, but from what I've read he's extraordinarily talented vocally and instrumentally.

Much as I detest many (most) aspects of the "Idol" franchise and its associated (19E/BMG) machine, there have still been some really talented kids who have gotten their big break into the music business via one or another of the "Idol" shows worldwide.    I think Kalan may be one of the good guys.

If I were on DSL instead of dial-up, I'd have access to downloads of Kalan to let me judge for myself.
