In these times of uncertainty and turmoil I am concerned about the security and safety of my wife, all my lady friends (including 'catters) and my female relatives. The crisis that exists due to Katrina will most certainly give rise to crimes of every description. Especially CAR JACKINGS, ARMED ROBBERY, PURSE SNATCHING AND PERSONAL ATTACKS against women. I am advising all lady 'catters…
• To always be aware of your surroundings…check out WHO is in your immediate area and if necessary how to KEEP THEM AT A SAFE DISTANCE. • Be aware of who in the vicinity of ATM's if you have to use them. It is best to go to the bank and cash a check. • NEVER show large amounts of money anywhere! • Keep your car doors locked at all times. • Keep your handbags in the trunk of your vehicles or at least covered in the floorboard. • If someone approaches you while you are stopped (especially at a red light) lay on your horn and if necessary floorboard it and get out of harms way. • Try to shop without your handbag, keep a minimum amount of cash, debit and credit cards and your driver's license in your pocket or bra or even your shoes. • Shop with friends…safety in numbers. • If you are caught in the open and attacked by assailants…don't be a hero…if you have a handbag, throw it at them then scream and run.
I have been involved in the world of security many years of my life and know how folks are likely to act in times of uncertainty. Unfortunately, there is that element who are just looking for an excuse for violence and upheaval. We are starting to travel unknown roads that few of us are aware of. I am sure there are many more ways to protect your selves and be safe. All 'catters are duty bound to keep us all informed of problems in our part of the world…the planet is indeed getting smaller.
