It's a matter of personal taste and preference I suppose. I used to own a Hathway OM and, earlier, an Oakwood (and several other makes as well, e.g. John Le Voi) and prefer the Fylde to both the Hathway and the Oakwood both for aesthetics and sound. That is not to say in the slightest that the latter two are in any way anything other than excellent instruments. But the best bouzouki I owned was an old John Roberts.
My line-up, for what it's worth, is now a Terry Docherty octave mandolin, and Gideon Weigert mandolin and mandola.
