Thread Name: BS: Hanoi Jane does a Galloway
Subject: RE: BS: Hanoi Jane does a Galloway
Seems this thread drifted off a bit. Sorry to see you're leaving Mary (if you're still here) but I guess I can understand, though still not agree. I know that you're pretty passionate about what started nearly 40 yrs ago as a police action but to hold a hatred that long for Jane & brand her a traitor is way off. Her crime was to try to bring our loved ones home alive from a place they should've been in (replay Iraq today) in the 1st place. My brother served in Vietnam & Cambodia as a navy seal (oh, we weren't in Cambodia were we?). His transport to & from missions into Cambodia was by sub accompanied (or taxied) by, what he referred to as Citizens In Action (CIA). BTW, he was also pressured, not called back to duty, to be to used during the mining of the harbors in Nicaragua, another place where we weren't supposed to be but were. My father (a well decorated WWII vet), my mother, sister & I all were protesters doing the same as Jane. So if you're gonna make Jane the scapegoat include all of us who felt that way back then & feel that way now. I'd much prefer hearing an intelligent speech from Jane rather than the muck & mire (some of what's now called Bushisms)I'd get from Georgie the worst not Georgie the 1st.

One of the costs to the American people during those times, which was/is hardly ever addressed, is the loss of the trust for nation. "Question Authority" was a battle cry that has stayed with many over the years. Many of us (myself included) were left feeling that we could never again (if we even did from the start) believe or take just the word of any administration or any president or any others in power or in control. Though during the last campain a US general did state that with out the American people's backing we could never win an unpopular war. Guess the tides are changing after all lies & secrtecs have been coming to rear their ugly heads(no plan ahead here, again).

So Mary, can you forgive us when we tried to right a wrong, I'm sure some of us or at least I can forgive you for your continuous backing of the doctrine that "Might is Right" & an immorally launched campaign of the "Ends Justify the Means" policy are a good policy.
