The Deering Goodtime Banjo is a fine starter banjo for the money. I think they need to be tweaked to get a good plunky sound as shipped (head is too tight, action is too low, etc.) but if you get someone who knows their way around a banjo to help set it up to your satisfaction, you can get a lot of mileage out of one.
