Yes, I am here in the Montana Rockies, the Gallatin valley ringed by the Spanish Peaks, the Bridger Range, the Tobacco Root Range, and the Madison Range. I got up at 5:30 for a long walk with the dog while Ryan delivered papers. An unusually mild January first morning, the sky is turning pink and light blue. I phoned a friend who lives on a high bench in the center of the valley, and he could look towards town in the foothills last night and watch fireworks going off all across the base of the mountains as people created their own fireworks displays. I envied the Paris midnight celebration. There were many cities and countries with very creative and meaningful celebrations that I watched on tv yesterday. The drummers and pipers on the edge of Portugal, the Maori in New Zealand, the edge of massive waterfall in South America, it was great to see all the cultures around the world expressing their identity in their celebrations. I really was unimpressed by what the U.S. did in comparison.
