That is a beautiful region of the country.   Getting to and from and Painted Desert is also very memorable. I've driven through the desert a couple of times and it is breathtaking.   The Painted Desert just adds another spectacular dimension. I have heard that it is really beautiful at sunrise or sunset but I was not able to make satisfactory arrangements with the sun when I was in the area.
