FWIW, Joe Thompson, from whom Dani learned "Give Me Oil in My Vessel" is one of the last African American old time country fiddlers around. And we still don't know where he got the song. It probably was sung in the little independent country church to which he belongs...and given that no one has been able to find anything close to it, may have originated in that congregation....at least the melody, since all the verses are from somewhere else.
