The paragraphs quoted by Nancy Prince are from a sermon, or the Bible. She seems to have had little knowledge of African-American spirituals or the people who sang them, although she talked with some slaves on her voyage.

I have not found the author of the hymn, "No Hiding Place," which she quotes at the close of her narrative.
