I went to the Gold Coast Bird Sanctuary some years a go - they had some koalas there. Most of them had collars on. They were used to give an electrical jolt so that some of the lazy (well drug besotted actually) little bastards were awake when the tourists came by. They are so well fed that they are too lazy to drop on them otherwise.
