Subject: RE: Origins: My Pigeon House - need 'Alabama Songbook'
I have ordered, since it sounds like a good book. Collections made mostly in the 1940s by Byron Arnold. Includes some spirituals, fiddle, railroad, songs from both white and black.
Editor Robert W. Halli. Price at University of Alabama Press is $59.95, but some book dealers are selling for $35. Hardcover.
Full title: "An Alabama Songbook, Ballads, Folksongs and Spirituals." 208 songs out of a collection of about 500. One informant who provided 33 songs was 90 years old, so some oldies here.
