yes, indeed... slow motion disasters never get the publicity or attention that big, sudden events do. The human mind just doesn't work that way, I guess.

...and yeah, population IS near saturation...it passed the theoretical comfort zone about 1935. Sure will be interesting in a hundred years.

It is so very sad to read these stories of people who live in the danger zones with so little resources.
