Despite his behaviour and rumours to the contrary, Jack has had quite a sheltered life. I don't think his mummy ever took him to the zoo (which could be another reason why he's run away from home), so he probably couldn't identify an elk from a whelk; whereas he HAS met Taffski so knows about sheep.
