Stringed instruments like being out in the room, hung or otherwise, they pick up all the ambient vibrations which help prevent their sound going dull. Watch out if the walls are painted with matt emulsion, the slightest condensation and the instrument may stick to the wall. A velcro pad behind where it touches should prevent that.
