An attorney told me that the County Courthouse here is haunted. In 1976 a clerk was gunned down there by an angry citizen -- the shooter was caught immediately and convicted, the reason was that the shooter didn't think he'd been treated with "respect."

The dead woman, a long-time employee, is said by the janitor to still be around. Lights are turned on at odd hours; the janitor has seen them go on as he steps into a unlit corridor, sort of like "here, I'll help you out." Lights left on by mistake in various offices are also turned off -- he says he's seen that, too.
