Actually, a lot of people follow SRS's wisdom in this, and build their own Self-storage environments. The outside looks pretty much like an ordinary humanoid bipedal, complete with nose hairs and earwax for effect.

But once you get inside, the landscape transforms, and each one has its own renegade architecture, its own libraries, and runs a different variant of power supply, has idiosyncratic lighting and weather, and varying degrees of trash and landscaping. This myriad and eclectic architecture of the interior of the Individual Self Storage environment is one of the most interesting things about our species.

The trouble is, of course, that many people get so involved with their self-storage plans and designs that they get quite adverse to letting their Selves out of storage, and thus deny themselves wonderful opportunities to gain new ideas and adventures. Sigh....
