Subject: fabulous new NOEL GARDNER CD out!
Hi Folks,
Noel Gardner here. This is just a short message to say that my long-awaited third CD ' WALKING THIS LAND' will be launched at the Maleny Community Centre on Sunday, November 20 at 7.00pm.
The CD is the culmination of more than three years' work (well, I had to build the studio first!!) and hundreds of hours of planning, recording, reviewing, phone calls, singing and playing guitar.
It was recorded in my home studio and co-produced and engineered by my eldest son, Peter, who is currently completing his honours to his music degree at QUT in Brisbane.
I feel very proud and honoured that he has done such a fantastic job. In fact the CD has all three of my boys playing on it, even my nine year old Gabriel sings on the title track.
On the thirteen tracks, I have been joined by excellent musicians on piano, guitar, drums, bouzouki, mandolin, dobro, bass, percussion, flute, whistle, clarinet, harmonica, cello and vocal harmonies.
Most of these musicians will be playing at the launch and it will be wonderful having their fabulous instrumentation enhancing the songs.
Support act for the night is Maleny's fabulous a cappella group WORK IN PROGRESS, while local poet, IAN MACKAY, will start things off with renditions of his thought-provoking and humorous poetry.
Cakes, coffee and light snacks will be available from 6.30 pm and a licensed bar will operate throughout the evening.
I hope you can come along and share this special evening with some wonderful musicians and join with me in celebrating the launch of this CD.
" Noel Gardner is a powerful performer with an emotive blend of thoughtful lyrics, sensitive guitar & heartfelt vocals whose songs paint a vivid portrait of life, our natural environment, social justice and indigenous heritage.
While generally regarded as a folk musician, Noel's style includes influences from folk, aboriginal music, blues, jazz, country and folk rock. While entirely and refreshingly original, Noel's music has been compared in genre to Shane Howard (Goanna) and John Schumann (ex-Redgum) and Canadian Bruce Cockburn.
Noel has taken time to get to know some of the history, mythology and legends of his local environment on the Sunshine Coast and has written them into songs such as "Fraser", "Mt Coolum" and "Rainbow Man".
In 1992 Noel was made a life member of Queensland's Sunshine Coast Environment Council for his contribution to our environment through his music."
NB Noel also has two previous CDs still available : "Justice & Pride" and "Fraser", which I also highly recommend!!
