I used the freezer method when I went to Towersey Festival this year. Precooked a batch of meals, put them into containers and froze them. Took them out of the freezer and into the coolie bin (chilly bin or cooler) where they acted as extra ice packs. They were still frozen the following day (Thursday), partially frozen the next, cold on Saturday and Sunday and by Monday were perfectly defrosted. They actually stayed frozen longer than the icepacks!

For Gathering foods the important things to remember are to avoid meat that goes off dangerously quickly (pork, chicken), to avoid things like rice that need to be cooled quickly and thoroughly reheated and to make sure your storage is clean and secure (don't want to be scraping gravy off the back seat of the car now, do we?!)
