See, this is what comes of trying not quoting the source. The lyrics I was remember are these:

Farewell my friends, I'm bound for Canaan,
I'm traveling though the wilderness,

You do not leave my mind distressed.

Perhaps never to meet again,
But if we never have that pleasure

That's the chorus. There was stuff in between (or at least I think there was) but I couldn't hear it properly.
