Your post summoned up similar memories from my childhood and my relationship with my grandparents. I too was fortunate to have them living next door in an attached house as I was growing up. I also had a special relationship with my grandfather and we would always do things together, like getting on a bus of a Saturday morning and going to the Atwater market to do some shopping and being treated to french fries at the snack bar there.Sleeping over at their house was a special treat as my granny was a great cook and I would be plied with all sorts of homemade donuts, cookies and cakes.

If anything comes close to heaven on earth, it is being wrapped in the spiritual warmth of a grandparent's unconditional love and folks like us are lucky to have had this experience.
