Recently we had a hot discussion going about the Dutch tune "In Babilone." Masato kindly provided a link to a site which has pdf's of tunes from the same book that it came from, and I have been trying out the tunes.
If all goes well, Joe will post another tune from that book. The book was called
Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties en Contredansen, c. 1710
(If that doesn't work, I shall have to find the link from the In Babilone thread.)
the new tune is called die Nonne med ?. I think this means "The Nun with...", but I can't read the next word, and even if I did I don't know Dutch. So if somebody could figure this title out from Simon's site, it would be a boon to all.
The tune is a sexy little number, mostly in the belly-dance minor but with a modern little interval in the middle so that the musicians could show they know what's what. Finding this kind of thing is one of the joys of poking around in the world of early music. The gang is going to love this.
