"Either they work or they don't. If they do they are cures." Implying, I guess, that they would no longer be described as "alternative"? Les, not even standard med-school-type cures work every time, for everyone. If they did we'd live forever.

Susan-Marie, sounds as if you found someone whose style of hypnotherapy worked really well for you. That's wonderful. I am glad you mentioned it here, not because of stage fright (which I have, but not several hundred dollars worth!), but because one of these days I'm going to need a cataract operation. You have to be conscious for it, and that scares the dickens out of me. I will definitely consider hypnotherapy, that's very encouraging. Used it once before in a minor surgery situation. At the hypnotists's suggestion, I was able to put myself back in a mild semi-trance during the surgery, stay peaceful, and get through the whole thing without panic or too much anxiety.

BTW some people won't get any benefits from hypnotherapy because they just aren't good hypnotic subjects. The therapist told me I'm a great hypnotic subject but I think it's because I spend most of my days in a trance anyway, :-)
