Subject: RE: BS: electronic Mouse deterrent - any 1 tried
I'm not sure if it is the same type of gadget, but . . . while I have not personally purchased one, but did personally observe the following.
Back in our poor starving Music major college days, some friends of mine moved into a rental with some unwanted inhabitants. My friends bought a little electronic box that made some sort of high frequency pitched sound which I believe was called "super sonic," or some such thing. It was supposed to repel all manner of vermin from their home--well, not the allegedly human types, anyway. The box could be adjusted to a variety of settings so that if creatures were not deterred, one could set it more "super sonic"ly and then for sure it would deter all the evil creepy crawly bugs & mice & rats & whatever.
They tried it at various settings, and there were creepy crawly things creepily crawling all over the box. $9.95 + tax down the drain. Their young son decided to use it for a school science project, and his dad enlisted some Speech Path majors from our schools' audiology dept. to determine the frequencies of the sounds, and the boy even videotaped his experiments. He brought in a variety of creatures which he released directly upon the box, and I helped to hold the videocamera. His mom was not amused! I, however, found it quite comical to see my gal friend screaming at the bugs & her hubby & son running about attempting to catch some scary creatures worthy of horror flicks. It seemed to deter nothing of the crawling persuasion. It did, however, make the neighbor's dog go nuts on a couple of settings, which their son found out by taking it outside for further experiments. He won a prize for the Science project. The sonic box went into the garbage can.
