Glad to hear Grommette is doing as well as can be expected.
When we had working dogs as pets (when I was itsy bitsy) my father gave the dogs a small tire tied to a rope to pull around the yard either with their teeth or in a sled harness. It kept them from digging holes to Beijing. He eventually configured a harness for them to pull a cart for fun as well. They enjoyed that. Working dogs need a job.
Get Grommette some geese or chickens to herd and pray she doesn't kill them.
Another option is to get grommette a kitten when she's a bit older. Her natural instincts will be to protect it and care for it. My Alsatian became a proud poppa to a little feral kitten we took in 4 years ago and they STILL sleep together paw to paw, nose to nose every night on the dog bed. Frick and Frack they are.
