What a fine thread for studying recollections.
Ebbie's slip is very common (I'm sure I also couldn't list all Mudcatters I have pmed with without checking files first) but there's no way a failure of recollection can be called a lie in any meaningful sense.
Bobert's false recollection is much more interesting because it is rarer. Of all the errors of memory by far most are forgetting something that has happened, only a very small percentage is a 'recollection' of something that has never happened.
The I actually exchanged a couple of PM's with him back then is a very rare gem both for the strong subjective feeling of certainty ("actually") and for the wrong recollection of repeated occurence ("couple of").
