I'd favour any of the old black and white movies of the Astaire/Rogers class (gents* in white tie, laadies in evening gowns) or of the 'Roaring Twenties'/'Public Enemy' class (gents either double breasted suits and fedoras or d/b DJ/Tuxedos, ladies either 1920s 'flapper' or evening dress), BUT do it all in shades of black, grey and white with neutral grey cosmetics for everyone. Alternatively, pick a silent film, again, all in a black and white theme, white face for all with heavily made up eyes and everyone carrying a small blackboard and chalk for communication (unless you can get 'titles' some other way).
