Thread Name: Folklore: 'Born To Run': Senate Annoyed
Subject: Folklore: 'Born To Run': Senate Annoyed
This from the Washington Post 21 November 2005 (I figure just this once we can cite the admittedly left-leaning Post in a political context.)

A plan to honor the 30th anniversary of Springsteen's Born to Run has evidently fallen afoul of Congressional annoyance that the Boss was a strong Kerry man. So the
Senate did not pass the otherwise routine resolution.

The writer of the article now predicts other Congressional comment on music:

Pro-war Republicans defeat Rep. John Murtha's resolution honoring Eric Burdon and the Animals' 40th anniversary of "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place".

Current country singers Big and Rich are saluted on Senate floor--"We just identify with the name" say Bush supporters.

Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Valerie Plame affair vetoes the playing of "Secret Agent Man" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" during breaks in hearings.

Liberal Democrats demand hearing on playing of Muzak versions of "Stairway to Heaven" in government elevators, arguing it violates separation of church and state.

With a unanimous vote, House outlaws radio airplay of "Seasons in the Sun" and "Billy, Don't Be A Hero" because well, it's just the right thing to do.

Any more suggestions?
