Subject: RE: Folklore: 'Born To Run': Senate Annoyed
Here's what BACKSTREETS had to say ( a long-running Springsteen fanzine.. I used to subscribe but it got kinda boring - just long lists of what he played at each tour stop and 6 rebiews of the same show!)

>>>MAYBE THEY VOTED FOR IT BEFORE THEY VOTED AGAINST IT?
If you think the only resolutions before Congress these days are about the war in Iraq, think again. Democratic Senators from New Jersey Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine introduced a resolution to honor Bruce Springsteen, upon the 30th Anniversary of Born to Run, for his lengthy career and his contributions to our culture. "Resolutions like this pass all the time in the U.S. Senate," said a Lautenberg spokesman, "usually by unanimous consent." Thing is, according to the Associated Press, the effort "was shot down Friday by Republicans who are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry." Now, we're all for anything that honors Bruce Springsteen and his work. But seriously, you guys all have more important issues to address these days, right? Right? (Read the A.P. story)

And perhaps now that Corzine is leaving the Senate to become governor of the great state of New Jersey, he can revisit the efforts to make "Born to Run" the state song. "Baby, this town rips the bones from your back..." Anyone? Anyone? -November 20, 2005<<

Oddly enough - there reall has been a movement afoot for years to try and make 'Born to Run' the New Jersey State Song! Some NJ radio stations till play it every Friday at 5 O'clock the way other radio stations play "Working for the Weekend.' Obvuosly 'Born To Run' is a better friday night choice than anything Loverboy ever recorded, but the State song?
