Thread Name: Origins: for tune used in 'Les lacs du connemara'
Subject: Origins: Irish tune used 'Les lacs du connemara'
Jacques Revaux, French musician, used an Irish or Scottish air (and probably there was a ballad/song attached to it) to compose a more modern version of the tune and Michel Sardou (a French singer) wrote lyrics for this tune called "Les lacs du Connemara" (Connemara lakes).
I would like to find the original tune, its name and tablatures, and anything else relevant about the original tune and possibly lyrics if there was any.
There was also an anedocte about this tune that may refresh some memories.
It was used as a tune in a Fianna Fail's political campaign during one of the last Irish elections (since 1981 date of the French song). I strongly believe that Charles Haughey was then the leader of the political party.
It may have been the 1987 general election and the tune was played regularly on RTE (the Irish television channel) during that campaign.
I was told at the time that Michel Sardou (or the musician or maybe the music editor ...) tried to sue the Fianna fail political party for having used their copyrighted tune, during this campaign ... but obviously the tune was originally from Ireland (or maybe Scotland? as I was lately told ) . I do not remember the outcome although I always assumed the information conveyed to me was correct (i.e. that there was an attempt by Sardou or his lawyers to get money out of it).
So if somebody could at least point me to the right tune ... I could then try to chase the original song if there was one and find out what really happened about this incident
here are some sites with the beginning of the tune at amazone.com:

And here Sardou's lyrics (which have nothing to do I believe with the original song (if there was lyrics)

On y croit encore
From a Frenchman who has lived in Ireland for the last 25 years but who has lost his memoory!!!!
