Thread Name: Lyr Req: He Said If You Love Me Feed My Sheep
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: He Said If You Love Me Feed My Sheep
Many versions of this old gospel song. It has been called a southern mountain hymn. I haven't heard the quartet recorded on Smithsonian-Folkways.

Lyr. Add: You Hear the Lambs A-Cryin' (Work)

Refrain:
You hear the lambs a-cryin',
Hear the lambs a-cryin',
Hear the lambs a-cryin',
O Shepherd feed my sheep.
(Repeat)

Leader:
My Saviour spoke these words so sweet,
sayin' "Peter if you love me feed my sheep."
Chorus
"(My) Lord I love Thee Thou dost know
O give me grace to love Thee more"
Chorus
    Wasn't that an awful shame
He hung three hours in mortal pain.

Chorus: (Response)
O Shepherd feed my sheep,
O shepherd feed my sheep,
You feed my sheep.

John W. Work, 1940, "American Negro Songs and Spirituals," p. 114, with music.
Also in Songs of Zion, 128, harmony by Verolga Nix, 1933.
