Thread Name: Help: Please Recommend Some Artists/Albums
Subject: RE: Help: PLEASE RECOMMEND SOME ARTISTS/ALBUMS!
Kat said it so succinctly...Battlefield Band! (Always my first recommendation!) :-) Beyond them... it depends on what sorts of music and instruments you favor, as to which artists you might most enjoy. For fiddle I recommend John McCusker, Natalie MacMaster,Brian McNeill, Or the Celtic Fiddle Festival recording(s), For Accordian I recommend Sharon Shannon, for vocals Kate Rusby, Cathie Ryan, for Irish flute- Seamus Tansey...for sheer gorgeous song writing I would suggest Andy M. Stewart. For combinations of "all of the above" traits, Cherish the Ladies,Solas,Capercaillie, etc. - Gaelic Storm has a new one that's lots of fun (It's called "Herding Cats") There's also a band called Leahy (out of Canada I believe) nine brothers and sisters together, and the fiddler (Donnell Leahy) is amazing. There's also a great Irish fellow by the name of Gerry Timlin, that I had the pleasure of meeting at an Irish festival two years ago - he does some great interpretations of folks like Stan Rogers, and lots of traditionals. If available, also, I would strongly recomend collections like the Celtophile series of CDs, or the Green Linnet sampler CDs...these are collections of tracks by many different artists, and is a great way to hear lots of different people and decide what you like most and would like to hear more of. Have a great time! :-)
