Thread Name: Identify Song: Like a guardian angel
Subject: Identify Song: Like a guardian angel
Can you identify the song with these lyrics?

Although I'm far away from you, my love,
I spend each long and weary day
Counting the hours beneath the stars above
Until once again I hear you say:

I'll give my love to you, live my life for you,
This I'll do with all my heart,
Like a guardian angel.
I always will be there, always there to share,
Even when we're far apart.
You will have an angel.

We spend each day dreaming of tomorrow,
Hoping that it will all be worth
All of our efforts, toil, and sorrow,
And bring us peace on earth.

Marching along the road to glory,
Without a single thought of fear.
Though every war can tell a story,
There's only one I long to hear:

I'll give my ... etc.

Background: My father taped this from from the radio (aired by Les Claypool) to reel-to-reel tape sometime in the 60s. I have a cassette copy of that recording, but it's getting pretty beat up. I searched for various phrases of it in the DT, but to no avail. I'd love to identify the song so I can find out if there's a recording on CD available anywhere.

A couple of other details: my father always called this song "The Frenchman" and the artist who sang it did have something of a French accent. Les Claypool introduces the song thus: "This is not a love song where you sing the blues. It is not one that bemoans a lost love. No, it is a love song where you stand up on your own two feet and you tell the world. You tell 'em."

Any leads/help appreciated. -- Glen
