Yeah, let's stop people singing other people's songs altogether.

I would support this action if I thought it meant "lesser" artistes getting their fair share, but in my experience this is about bolstering the position of the already successful artistes.
Songwriters I know (even moderately successful ones) are happy to share their lyrics, and are honoured and flattered that other people want to do their songs.
