What you detailed in your last paragraph would be the only thing that would provide the authorities with "an unvarnished account" of what happened, i.e. all passengers individually debriefed without being given the chance to communicate with each other.

What intimidation? In what way would any of the passengers eye-witness accounts of what they saw and heard be biased by the debriefing process?.
