In many ways I think a good song makes its own friends. And good singers/interpreters gain the respect of any audience. I recall doing a slower version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" for an older crowd--they were past retirement. They seemed to enjoy it as much as "A Bicycle Built For Two" done as a sing along.
