Thread Name: More Uncommon Sailor Songs CD (Ipcar)
Subject: MORE UNCOMMON SAILOR SONGS CD
Last year we had the announcement of my first CD UNCOMMON SAILOR SONGS. This year we have the sequal MORE UNCOMMON SAILOR SONGS. I'm not sure what we title the next CD but I'm open to suggestions. However, this year's production again includes poems by C. Fox Smith that I've adapted for singing, a couple of my own creations, songs by other respected songwriters, and a couple of old family favorites.
Details including full lyrics, notes, and MP3 samples can all be reviewed at my personal website: Click here! There is even a convenient order form.
The collection includes my version of "Dead Dog Cider" with its new chorus; it's a marginal sailor song but the poor dog does drown. Other songs such as "Rio Grande" and "Rosario" are good traditional style setting-out songs. There's a set of songs focused on the Pacific Northwest in which C. Fox Smith provides imagery of the working waterfront, loading lumber into the ships, the sunset amidst the ship's rigging, the Twilight Zone of the nautical junk shop, and the loss of a close friend and shipmate. There's a classic pirate song from THE PIRATES' OWN BOOK and another Hamish Maclaren poem about the rodent mariners, the brown sea rats. There's the tale of the old she-crab and the many wonderful tales of Dr, Dogbody's leg. And the mystery of why a small cove in downeast Maine is called Bailey's Mistake is finally revealed. Also included are favorite songs by Vince Morash of Nova Scotia and John Warner from Sydney, Australia.
