The REAL reason you want to believe in a god is not so much to get spiritual survival yourself, but to get revenge on others who have crossed you in life- like Lazarus seeing Dives fry in hell. So all this talk about higher spirituality and so on simply boils down to "I'll tell Daddy and he'll spank you".
