Well that rather depends what is meant by "Science says". Sometimes it can be claimed that "science says" something which is not in fact within the remit of science.

For example, if some scientist were to claim that "science says" that some moral precept such as "love your neighbour" is wrong, would it be "abandoning reason" to dismiss the claim?
