I've said this before but I'll say it again: Folk music has traditionally relied on political events for their ballads. If you can't find enough material here to write a few protest songs, where are you gonna find it?

I have given this additional thought and wonder if the absence of ballads about present day events is a result of our heavy reliance of visual media in this day and age. Perhaps the ballad was a way preserving history in the oral tradition. It was necessary but today we have t.v. and computers so now we don't need to sing about it.

I just wonder about folk singers who are uninterested in politics.

What do you sing about?
