One of the things that may help would be for all members to look at there PM's and delete all the ones that are no longer useful.
Then copy and paste all other pm messages to a word document and save it.
Then delete the remaining PM's.
I have to admit to being very lazy with deleting my pm's and they sure do mount up.
I am now going through them little by little to remove them all.
The other thing, is how long are normal threads kept by Mudcat?
Most threads are worthless after a certain time and must be taking up a huge amount of unescesary storage, which must affect processing as well.
Deleting or archiving personal messages might make your personal page load a bit quicker, but that's about it. Deleted messages stay in the Mudcat database, but they are accessible only by certain administrative people - not by the regular Clones. All the personal and Forum messages posted over the 9-year history of Mudcat are still there, and they take up only a few gigabytes of space - almost every hard drive on the market today can hold the entire Mudcat database.
But yes, I have to say that we aren't satisfied with the reliability of Mudcat, either. We're doing what we can; but so far, that hasn't been enough. Still, somehow we've survived for 9 years - I think that's a pretty good accomplishment.
