First time I've seen this thread.

In 1968 a friend and I quit our jobs with IBM and went on a 3 month trip across the pond. Started in the British Isles, among other things we took a train (we had BritRail Passes & Eurail passes) to Scotland and rented a car to drive to Skye.

I was always on the lookout for folk music and dance events. After we visited Blair Atholl Castle, we drove into Pitlochry and I saw a sign for a folk music evening. Could, but won't, tell lovely stories about the friendly people of Pitlochry and how we found a room.... The relevant thing here is that the last song of the evening was "These Are My Mountains." It was announced that the song had just won the above mentioned contest as the best new Scottish folk song. The entire audience sang along. Lovely. Since then I've always loved it.
