And banish the Martinmas rain

For the river runs deep and the river runs wide
That carries my own love away

Cold mountains are here all around me
Cold waters that roll down the stream
And I think in my sleep that I see you
To find that it's only a dream

For I leaned my back against an oak,
And thought it a trusty tree
