Thread Name: BS: Fun with Flash!
Subject: RE: BS: Fun with Flash!
Those using Flash should be aware:

1. A couple of months or so ago, a new version of Macromedia Flash was released due to "vulnerabilities" that were discovered and fairly widely published on the internet. A small number of malware exploits were found, but they seemed to be growing rapidly and were serious. Getting the latest version, if you haven't updated very recently, has been strongly urged by anti-malware orgs.

2. My attempt to read the EULA for Macromedia Flash at that time found 31 separate "included EULAs" each requiring you to open a separate website to see what you were agreeing to let them do. This is not particularly encouraging, since some programs have used "incorporation by citation" to induce people to download embedded programs that skirt the boundaries of - or are actually and blatently - spyware. Macromedia itself has been frequently described by tech authors as "virus-like" and "predatory."

3. Attempting to actually read the first few "incorporated by citation" EULAs led to more "incorporated by citation" EULAs in the EULAs "incorporated by citation," in what appears to be an infinite string... (I got through about 45 separate EULAs and had only "cleared" the first 10 of the original list.)

4. I gave up and have updated my Flash player based solely on the fact that Macromedia has been purchased by and is now owned by Adobe. Adobe is a company I have trusted in the past, but Flash and it's "EULA" really push my "envelope of trust."

5. If you're going to use Flash, by all means DO GET the current version from the Adobe site, and get the old holes plugged.
