Hi Jon,
I learned this from Hamish many years ago when we were playing at a Gig in Denny in Stirlingshire.
CLAPPED OUT MOTORCAR
O' the coopers oot o' Forfar, aul Shuggie farms the land
Rustic farmer is no charmer, tho' he's aften tried his hand
He's made passes at the lassies, never quite came up tae par
Till he sold that ring o' gold and bought a clapped oot motor car
Chorus
It was rusted it was busted
This old car wouldn't travel far
But it's true that Farmer Hugh
Had many a ride in that old car
He didn't tax it or insure it, in the normal way o' things
Only ensured that the doors were locked and nightly taxed the springs
It wasn't cruel on oil or fuel, sevice charges were quite thin
Each day a box of chocolates sat, underneath a bottle o' gin
Chorus
Though the motor had nae rotor and the engine never went
One night standing in the back seat, Shuggie had an accident
Moving up from first to second, wi a mighty burst o' speed
Realised his brakes had failed him and his big end hadnae seized
Chorus
Though he'd rode wi' precautions, safety belt an a' the lot
Orange juice, rice an' confetti soon were poor aul Shuggie's lot
On the day of matrimony, his co-driver by his side
Sentimental and nostalgic back tae the car for one last ride
Chorus
