We're going to paint part of the basement a MUCH lighter color. The rooms and the hall to be painted are panelled in that fake woodpaneling that was popular back in the 1970s. It's wood, but....

We don't care about filling in the grooves.

What we're planning to do is to scrub it all down with Simple Green and Scotchguard (an environmentally-friend detergent/degreaser and nylon scruff-scrub pads), rinse it, prime it and paint it. (Well, actually, we're going to pay a group of University students to do it -- they're raising money to go work with Habitat during their Spring Break.)

Any other suggestions????
