After Ireland joined the European Union,
The EU made Ireland change to the Metric system,
So now we use Kilometers and Kilos
But the Irish said that their "PINT" was sacred and we could not imagine asking our local barman for liter of Guinness, it just didn't sound right.
So the EU caved in and the "PINT" was saved.
