It's a good idea to protect your arm from the rim of the banjo, with one of those valcro strapped wraps around the lower right arm. My arm used to go alseep on a regular basis when I was playing in a contradance band, before I provided such protection. Afterwards it was my head that went to sleep and I finally quit.
