I make no negative judgements about the lack of a welcome mat. We are relative newcomers to both the South, and to our town, and so do not know what the local history is post-legal discrimination. (But "Blood done Sign My Name" probably offers some good clues. But there is clearly a 'color line' here that both races help to perpetuate. I tried to join the local NAACP, but they would not send me an application. Maybe I should just go on-line and join at the national level.
