The private clinic that Jack used, the Shouldice Clinic, is private in so far as it is not administered as part of the Ontario hospital network, but it bills OHIP (Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan) for it's procedures, not the patients, just as any physician in private practice does. It is unique in that it specializes in one particular procedure, hernia repair, and has a world-wide reputation.
