It's not that I'm precisely blaming the big corporations for everything...
I'm just saying that the party sytem cannot truly represent the general public, given that their primary funding does not come from the general public, it comes from the big business community. Thus, legislation will be crafted in order to meet the needs and desires of the big business community.
The big business community seeks maximum profit. (naturally) Maximum profits are not likely in accord with maximum benefit to the general society. For instance, if there is cheaper labour in China, guess where your jobs are going to go?
The parties are necessarily forced to say one thing (in order to get elected) and do another much of the time. This makes them hypocrites and turns the public into embittered cynics.
None of that is conducive to good government.
Neither is it conducive to a healthy society to divide people up into competing partisan teams and set them against each other. You see the fallout from it constantly on this very forum. It's divisive and destructive.
